Bolivia Adventure Part Two

Day Three

Continuing on from my amazing tour that I began. This morning we woke up and headed out for another day of amazing sights. We began by sitting near the Lake Colorada, in the silence, watching flamingos. It was so peacful and serene, one of the best mornings I have ever expereinced. We then drove to an area that had so many crazy rock formations that you could climb up and play around in. Beautiful and so out of place, these rocks just were in one spot in the middle of no where and absolutely amazing. After having some fun on these rocks we continued on our drive because we had plans for the sunset so we had to rush. We ended up in a small village that produces beer. We stopped and enjoyed beer made from a variety of things such as: cactus, quinoa and honey. They were so delcious and refreshing after a day of touring. We also drove past many quinoa feilds, I have never seen one before and I thought it was so pretty and interesting.

We headed to our final destination, the salt flats. We arrived just in time for sunset. It is hard to even describe this place becasue it is unlike anything I have every seen before. Comparing them to the salt flats I had been to previous it was no competition. These ones were bigger, and more intense. As the sun set it felt like we were alone in the world as they are so vast that you cannot tell if there are other tourists around you. Once the sun had set we headed to our accomidation for the evening. A salt hostel on the edge of the salt flats. That’s right our entire hostel was made of salt bricks and floor. Yes I did try the wall to make sure it was salt, and it was. We had a delicious dinner and headed to bed as we had an early morning planned.

Our guide

5am came fast unfortunately, but I was okay with the early wake up becasue we were heading to the flats to watch the sun rise. We arrived to the center of the flats once again no cars or other people in sight. The salt flats become covered in water in the night, this allows for the most intense and beautiful reflections between sky and land. I had moments where I couldn’t tell the difference. I am not a super religious person but this place took my breath away and I had a feeling that this is what heaven would look like. It was incredible. Our guide had brought out a picnic breakfast for us, we enjoyed cake and coffee. We spent 6 hours exploring and taking pictures on the salt flats. I have no words for the amazing view I had but I will post pictures to show you. Out of all the places I have been in this world this is the most incredible, breathtaking place I have even been. Nothing compares to this incredible place. We finished the tour covered in dirt, salt and sweat but it is something that I will remember and cherish forever.

  1. Thank you for the photo of the quinoa field. This adds to my grain education. And your gushing about the salt flats is deserved. It looked like you were standing on ice.
